chickens in spring

i was surprised the barred Plymouth rocks would lay as much as they have.
granted i have 7 spoiled chickens, who have their own house next to a waterfall, automatic water fountain, all the pellets they want and now green grass. they are happy chooks. they also have two small people who think of themselves as chicken shepherds. the kids chase the birds off the porch, so we have a poop free deck.

the birds are terrroizing the flower bed right next to the house, as the soil next to the foundation turns to a fine powdery clay dust that they love to use as their dirt bath. i have thinking of trying to get them to move to another bed, but they do look so silly when they come out and shake all the dust out on the lawn. they look like exploding chickens. funny stuff. i'll have to try and get a video....

so since the chickens are still laying so well, i think this batch of livestock gets to hang around until next spring. the chicken house is big enough for additions to the flock, but i'm in no huge rush to add more birds just yet.

we are going to a farm sale on sunday, so i will probably have to be strong to not add any more birds. i guess i'll have to try and bring no cash! baby chicks are pretty cute....
